The Enviroroom is located in the Lake County Solid Waste Management District office. The room is specifically designed to replicate a wetland, where the floor appears to be the bottom of the wetlands and the ceiling is blue representing water, with huge 10 ft. Lillypads suspended from the ceiling. On the wall are 15 foot replications of the Indiana Tree frog, Blue Huron, and Dragon Fly. By designing the room in such a manner, the goal was to submerge participants in an environment that will tune their senses onto environmental awareness by placing them directly in that type of a setting. The many programs developed for the Enviroroom focus specifically on recycling and how to save landfill space. The programs use a multi-step process to first educate participants on the importance of recycling and waste reduction, then progress into how their efforts in solid waste management will directly affect the environment in which they reside. |
