The Green Team – School Assembly Program

During the Spring 2010 recycling initiative for the community of Hobart and the Hobart schools, LCSWMD educators formed the Green Team who danced their way into schools tossing Earth beach balls and recycled plastic frisbees into audiences comprised of whole school populations. The 30-minute assembly programs were so well received by the School City of Hobart that the Green Team is back for the 2010-2011 school year! The team will be visiting 12 Lake County Schools in early November 2010 in celebration of America Recycles Day. Another dozen schools are on the list for April 2011 leading up to Earth Day to get students fired up about REDUCING, REUSING and RECYCLING!

To request a Green Team visit to your school for NEXT school year simply print and complete the Enviromobile program request form and fax it to 219.769.3890 beginning April 25, 2011. Registration for the 2011-2012 school year will then close August 1, 2011. All LCSWMD programs are provided at no cost to your school but be sure to send your request on time…the Green Team’s availability doesn’t last long!

EnviroTeacher Advisory Council

The EnviroTeacher Advisory Council (E-TAC) was formed in 2006 when founding members met with the Lake County Solid Waste Management District education team to discuss trends in environmental education.  LCSWMD was seeking input on how to incorporate current education trends into the District’s classroom and field trip curricula in order to meet teachers’ and students’ needs.  The founding members include Bea Cak – Jane Ball (Cedar Lake), George Grogloth – John Wood (Merrillville), Kelly Richter - Ridgeview (Hobart) and Terri Williams – Solon Robinson (Crown Point).

Since 2006 the E-TAC has expanded and is now comprised of 14 total Lake County teachers.  The group meets each school year in a roundtable or workshop swapping ideas and sharing the latest information in educational and environmental movements.  With the help of the E-TAC, LCSWMD continues to bring current environmental issues to life for your students!

The EnviroTeacher Advisory Council will meet Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at the Environmental Education Center in Hammond.  Though the council is not seeking new members at this time, please email apetyko@lcswmd.com for more information or if you would like to be considered for future membership!
