Why should I recycle?
Save energy: Throwing away an aluminum can wastes as much energy as
pouring out a can half-filled with gasoline.
Recover valuable resources: A 2-liter pop bottle can be recycled into
another pop bottle, a T-shirt, carpeting, a park bench or playground equipment.
Generate less pollution: Making paper from recycled paper reduces the
pollution involved in the paper-making process by 95 percent.
Conserve landfill space: Lake County produces and buries over 686
thousand tons of garbage each year.
General recycling rules:
- Drop-off sites require materials to be separated, curbside services do
not.
- Scrape or rinse food residue from containers.
- Drain containers well.
- Labels do not need to be removed from any containers.
- Flatten containers to save space.
- Remove all lids. Throw away plastic lids and recycle steel lids.
- Bundle newspapers in brown paper bags.
When in doubt, throw it out... It only takes one bottle in a load of
250,000 to contaminate the entire load and make it impossible to recycle. Please
follow recycling guidelines.
