Drop Off Recycling-Lowell

Due to the large amount of illegal dumping (the leaving of non-accepted items such as mattresses, furniture, electronics, etc.) and excess contamination (including plastic bags, hazardous waste, construction material, and general trash), effective April 1, 2019, the Drop Off Recycling Center located at Freedom Park in Lowell will be temporarily closing so that the Lake County Solid Waste Management District and the Town of Lowell can make improvements to the site.

Over the past several months, the LCSWMD and the Town of Lowell have seen an increase in the amount of illegal dumping and contamination at the site.  Contamination, in any amount, results in the entire load being landfilled instead of being sent to a recycling center.  Improvements to the site will include: new signage with detailed information, new collection bins, a gate to restrict after-hours access to the site, and repositioning of existing security cameras.

It is the goal of the LCSWMD and the Town of Lowell to continue to provide this service to the residents of Lake County, IN.  However, should illegal dumping and contamination continue after the site re-opens and improvements have been made, the site will close permanently.
