One of the district's very successful educational programs is The Enviromobile. Watch for the van with the brightly painted ENVIROMOBILE logo on the side! The Enviromobile curriculum includes about a dozen different activities covering these topics:
The Enviromobile is the district's mobile education program, which
travels to classrooms in Lake County. The program offers "hands-on"
environmental science activities to students of all ages. Since it's start in
1994, The Enviromobile has visited almost 700 individual classrooms, working
with approximately 20,000 students. The program includes dynamic, innovative,
interactive lessons about water quality, soil quality, solid waste, energy, and
nature. The coordinator uses games, models, science experiments and team
activities to help students learn more about the environment around them and
their effect on it. The Enviromobile won The Governors Award for Excellence in
Solid Waste Education in 1996 and an international excellence award from The
Solid Waste Association of North America in 1997. Observe and play a part in programs involving everything from Household Hazardous Waste, Shopping Recycled, to Garbage Juice. Acquaint yourself with strategies and economic motivations for waste reduction in the home, school, workplace, church or community center. The Lake County Solid Waste Management District is dedicated to environmental education for the people of Northwest Indiana. At no cost to you, we are prepared to continue providing an interesting awareness on the environment and solid waste issues. Activities are offered to Northwest Indiana based schools, businesses, clubs, civic, churches or community groups.
