The program will cover several unincorporated areas within Lake County. Interested contractors should review the full details and submit their quotes by October 29, 2024.

Shred Events will be held on September 7 in Lowell and September 21 in Hammond.

Residential compost now available

The District is offering up to 1/2 cubic yard of compost to residents of Lake County, IN free of charge. Pickup is available by appointment only. Please call (219) 337-8341 Monday-Friday, 7 am-2:30 pm for details.

HHW Collections Cancelled

Our May 30 (Hobart) and June 6 (Whiting) HHW Collections are cancelled. These dates are not able to be rescheduled. Please check back in June for information on future collections.

Latex paint will no longer be accepted at our HHW Collections

Latex paint is not hazardous and will not be accepted, in any form, at our HHW Collections.

Fall Leaf Programs

Merrillville Uses Recycled Pipes for Stormwater Infrastructure

The Merrillville Stormwater Utility implemented a new standard for town-owned stormwater infrastructure projects by incorporating pipe that contains at least 40% recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE).

Drop Off Recycling Center Program Ending (not HHW)

The LCSWMD has decided to end its Drop Off Recycling Program. This is NOT our Household Hazardous Waste program. Beginning June 1, remaining sites will be gradually closed with all sites closed by October 1, 2019.
