Reduce, Re-wear, Re-scare!
It is FRIGHTENING….
that each year, millions of children wear Halloween costumes for just ONE night of trick or treating!! Parents might be able to convince a younger sibling to wear it the following Halloween, but most likely the costume will be obsolete after just a use or two. This leaves millions of perfectly good Halloween costumes without children to wear them!
In the spirit of Halloween AND reusing, the Lake County Solid Waste Management District is asking for your donations of clean, gently-used costumes and accessories. Visit the Environmental Education Center in Hammond to drop off your donations now through October 20th. You can receive “payment” in tickets, which can then be used to “purchase” used items from the Halloween Swap Store October 23rd-31st OR trade your items for a FREE t-shirt from us! The swap will open for a SNEAK PEEK on Saturday, October 21st from 9 am-11 am.
We would appreciate donations of:
- full or partial costumes, ALL SIZES – children through adult
- extra or unwanted items from your child’s dress-up box
- old dance recital costumes
- hand-me down prom dresses or bridesmaid dresses
- parts and/or pieces of costumes (masks, skirts, funny shoes, capes, hats, neck ties, fake fingernails, goofy
