Summer Program Registration Opens February 9

While winter may still be in full swing, the Lake County Solid Waste Management District is already looking ahead to warmer days and brighter skies. We’re excited to announce that registration for our 2026 Summer Programs will open on February 9, and we can’t wait to welcome families, students, and community members back for another season of hands-on environmental learning.

This year, registration is opening slightly later than usual as we aligned the launch with the release of our new website. The brief delay allowed our team to build a smoother, more user-friendly registration experience — making it easier than ever for residents to browse programs, view schedules, and reserve spots online.

A summer tradition for Lake County

Each summer, the District offers a wide variety of free, drop-off environmental education programs designed to make learning about sustainability engaging, creative, and fun. These programs provide young participants with the chance to explore real-world topics like recycling, composting, ecosystems, and waste reduction through interactive activities and guided discovery.

For many families, these sessions have become a seasonal tradition — a way to stay curious, connected, and active during the summer months while learning skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

What to expect this year

The 2026 summer lineup features a fresh slate of programs that continue to blend education with hands-on experiences. Many sessions also wrap up with community-building elements that allow participants to share what they’ve learned and celebrate their accomplishments.

Whether it’s building something from reused materials, exploring compost and soil health, or learning how everyday choices affect the environment, each program is designed to spark curiosity and encourage participants to think differently about waste and sustainability.

Looking forward to summer

As we prepare for another busy season, our team is excited to reconnect with returning participants and welcome new faces. Summer Programs give us the opportunity to work directly with the community, inspire environmental awareness, and show that learning about sustainability can be both fun and impactful.

Even in the middle of winter, there’s something energizing about planning for summer — and we’re grateful to be part of a community that continues to show such strong interest in environmental education.

We look forward to another successful season and can’t wait to share this year’s programs with Lake County. Mark your calendars for February 9, and get ready to join us for a summer of learning, creativity, and connection.
