Summer programs

Each summer, join the educators at Lake County Solid Waste Management District for free, fun environmental education experiences! We offer “drop-off” programs as well as “Enviromobile” programs, where our educators come to you!

Bowling Blastoff

We’re blasting off into Summer with an exciting and fun bowling bonanza! Learn how to make your own fun with entirely re-used materials. Participants will learn how to make their own bowling set to take home!

Making Seed Paper

Ages 9-13 welcome

Craft your own seed paper greeting card/postcard! In this workshop, we will break down junked paper into pulp, add flower seeds, and shape out our new paper creations.

Build a Bug Hotel

Ages 5-8 welcome

Learn about the insects that live in our local ecosystems and discover how they help keep nature in balance! Explore safe, natural pest control methods and create a cozy “hotel” that gives helpful bugs a place to live and hibernate.

Three Rivers Clean Up & Recycle Sort

Tuesday, June 30 – 10am-12pm

Three Rivers County Park

All school-aged children are welcome

Meet up with us at Three Rivers County Park to observe the wildlife that depends on clean land and water. Students take part in a mini cleanup, then examine the litter they’ve collected to learn what can be recycled!

Deep River Clean Up & Recycle Sort

Tuesday, July 28 – 10am-12pm

Deep River County Park

All school-aged children are welcome

Join us at Deep River County Park to explore the park’s river habitat while observing the wildlife that relies on a clean environment. Together, we’ll pick up litter, then sort what we’ve collected to see what can be recycled!

3rd Annual Recycling Carnival

Thursday, July 30 – 2pm-4pm

Environmental Education Center

All school-aged children are welcome

Come one, come all to our end of summer celebration at the Recycling Carnival! Participants are invited to play a variety of carnival games created using repurposed materials! No registration required, this is open to all!
