Summer Programs

Registration for Summer 2020 will begin on January 15, 2020.  Mark your calendars!   

LAKE COUNTY SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT DISTRICT offers a variety of FREE summer learning camps. Students must have a Lake County, Indiana address OR attend school within Lake County. 

Children may be registered for more than one class/camp.  However, a separate registration form must be filled out for each class.

Summer Camps at the Environmental Education Center are for individual students and not for groups.
Groups may register for a summer fieldtrip here

Become a LIMNOLOGIST studying fresh water and investigating pond water samples to determine whether or not this water is healthy!

ZERO WASTE CAMP

Monday, June 22 - Friday, June 26, 2020
 
9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
 
REQUIREMENT: Previous attendance in Earthlings or teacher referral (letter/email required)
Class Limit: 15 students (must be entering 6th - 12th grades Fall 2020)
 

Zero Waste Camp is an intensive study for those SUPER STEWARDS and super green kids out there wanting to learn more about the zero-waste lifestyle, waste prevention, precycling, recycling, composting and sustainability.  Plan to pack a zero-waste lunch each day. We'll be conducting a waste audit to see how much (or how little) and what type of waste we produce during this week-long class!  A Lake County Solid Waste Management Zero Waste Certification can be earned after completion of this course AND 10 hours of "payback hours" (service hours).  We meet at the EEC but also off-site during this one-week camp.

Celebrate reducing, reusing and recycling at the EEC!  Young students learn about zero waste through games, songs, stories and repurposing items into works of art.  Jr. Earthlings will empower your early learners as they discover the BEST ways KIDS can BE GREEN and reduce waste!

Sharpen your eco-knowledge and fine tune your green expertise! "Earthlings” participate in a variety of hands-on activities, games and projects with a focus on zero-waste, rethinking, reducing, repurposing and becoming environmental stewards! WARNING TO ADULTS: brush up on YOUR green skills at home because the history of this program has shown that THESE kids transform to become true champions for green...and they won't be afraid to show it!  Don’t forget to wear green and bring a reusable water bottle each day!
